Meet The Board
Jessica Behling
Jessica has been dancing since she was 4. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Dance Education from BYU. During her time there she performed with DanceEnsemble and dance abroad in China. She has taught dance in junior high, high school, and college settings as well as children's classes. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, baking, exercising, traveling, and going to Disney!
Malisalee Gardner -Registration Manager
Malisalee started dancing at a young age and hasn’t stopped yet. Her training includes ballet, jazz, hip hop, creative, contemporary, tap and clogging. She performed with the BYU Cougarettes, toured with BYU CDT (formerly Dancer’s Company) and performed a lead role in the Woman the Pioneer dance film. Graduating from BYU with a BA in Dance Education she has since lived her dream teaching and choreographing for the last twenty-five years, twenty-two of which were teaching for the BYU Children’s and Teens’ Creative Dance Program. She also loved serving many years as the Assistant Director. Malisalee cherishes the importance of a child dancing as a child, creating movement with meaning and understanding the way dance can express joy and build the soul and self worth of a child. When not dancing she can probably be found in her garden, spending time with her family, traveling or enjoying popcorn.
Camilla Johnson
​Camilla received a degree in Child Development from BYU-Idaho with a minor in dance education. She has taught children’s dance for the last 12 years. She strives to help each child learn about dance, themselves, and the world. She works to instill confidence to use their creativity to solve problems in all areas of their lives. She loves bringing Christ-centered topics into class to invite her students to explore the spiritual aspect of their God-given ability to dance.
Kristi Newsome
Kristi received her BA in Dance Education from BYU and has been teaching dance ever since. She has taught ages 3-18 at multiple dance companies but most notably 10 years at Timpanogos High School and 18 years at BYU Children's & Teen's Creative Dance. She also worked as a character-performer at Disneyworld Resort. She believes strongly in respecting childhood and all its wonders. Her favorite aspect of this program is the confidence it instills in children and teens.
Julie Stoddard
Julie got a BA in Dance Education from BYU. She performed with the Beijing Dance Academy while on a study abroad to China, and was a member of dancEnsemble at BYU. Since graduating she has taught with the BYU Children's Dance company and the Pleien Dance Company in New York. She loves seeing the joy and imagination of children and making dance fun.
Lindsey Taylor
Lindsey started her dance training at Legacy Dance Studio in Overland Park, Kansas and also danced and choreographed for her high school dance team. She then received her BA in modern and ballroom dance from Brigham Young University and then returned to receive her dance teaching credentials. She taught dance full time at Timpview High School for 10 years and coached both the drill team and the dance company there. She is now the mother of four young children and dances with them daily in the living room. Lindsey taught with BYU Creative Dance for 17 years and is happy to be able to continue offering dance in a nurturing and wholesome environment.
Audrey Higley
Audrey started dancing at the age of 9 at Ozsoy School of Ballet in Duncanville, TX. She did ballet and jazz there, and enjoyed exploring modern, theater, and hip hop at summer intensives. At 16 she moved to Austin, TX and spent two years at the Ballet Austin Academy. She received a BA in Dance from Brigham Young University where she discovered creative dance. It immediately filled her with joy, and she has enjoyed passing it on to others in their ballet and modern dance classes. She taught with BYU Children's and Teens' Creative Dance program for 6 years and is excited to teach for Creative DanceMakers! When not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her husband and kids, performing folk dance with World Dance Company, hiking, swimming, and reading.
Julianna Bateman
Julianna began dancing at the age of 3 and has found joy in it throughout her life. She graduated from BYU with a minor in contemporary dance and performed with DanceEnsemble, Spring Performing Arts Company, and The International Folk Dance Ensemble throughout her time there. She has had the opportunity to perform in Croatia and Spain, as well as many destinations in the United States. Julianna also participated in dance outreach to many elementary schools in Utah, teaching about different cultural dances. She assisted and taught with the BYU Children's and Teens Creative Dance Program for 6 years, and is excited to teach with Creative Dance Makers this year. When not dancing, you might find Julianna reading a book, playing the violin, or more likely than not, chasing after her two young children.
